Greetings in the Lord and peace be with you. I write to you today with regretful news, but offering options that may be helpful for you.
This morning, Monday, July 4, Kristin Niedbala received news from her family back in Pennsylvania regarding her father’s failing health. Unfortunately, her father’s health is deteriorating and the situation is growing critical. After this morning's consultation, she was requested to fly home so as to be with her father and family. Kristin’s family situation is such that she will be home for a few weeks, and thus unable to lead us in the retreat.
Kristin and I discussed options for continuing with the retreat, specifically with my leading the retreat as spiritual director. However, this afternoon I received word that my dad’s sister (my aunt) died and the funeral will be in New Orleans on Saturday. While Kristin and I hoped that I myself would be able to lead you on retreat, Saturday’s funeral now makes this impossible.
Therefore, with deep regret, I write to you today to inform you that this weekend’s retreat has been postponed. When a new date is available we will let you know.
With that said, I am aware that many have worked hard in making plans for this weekend. Therefore, Kristin and I would like to offer to you the following alternative for retreat. If you would come to Grand Isle this weekend I am able to offer the following options.
On Friday, July 8, both Fr. James Rome and Fr. Stephen Castille will available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 12 noon to 5 pm. One of them will celebrate daily Mass at 5 pm. You are more than welcome to come early and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation or you may come to the church and simply sit with them for spiritual direction and conversation.
In 2019 I recorded 50 guided meditations as part of a resource entitled “50 Days.” Kristin and I selected reflections that we feel will “move you through the retreat.” You can access the meditations here: ourladyoftheisle.com/meditations.
On Saturday, July 9, both Fr. James Rome and Fr. Stephen Castille will available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 8 am to 12 noon. You are more than welcome to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation or you may come to the church and simply sit with them for spiritual direction and conversation.
While not the ideal, Kristin and I want to honor the fact that some of you have made a financial investment for this coming weekend. While the unfortunate family circumstances are preventing us from hosting you personally, the availability of Frs. James and Stephen, as well as the guided meditations may be enough for you to encounter the Lord.
Again, you can access the meditations here: ourladyoftheisle.com/meditations. In fact, we’ve included a few meditations for the days building up to the retreat. You may want to consider listening to those this week.
Again, as I mentioned earlier, we do desire to reschedule the women’s retreat. As soon as a new date is available we will let you know.
Thanks for your understanding.
